Good afternoon parents and guardians!
I hope you had a lovely day! We did! A reminder that there is no school on Friday and Monday for the long weekend, the next day of school will be Tuesday October 11 for our field trip!
On the morning of Tuesday October 11 we are going on our walking field trip to the Country Hills Storm Pond. We will be doing activities at the pond with Inside Education connected to our wetland unit in Science. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather, as it may be chilly and windy that morning. Please make sure your child has an easy snack to eat outside and a water bottle.
The students had a blast in PE. We played a game called End Zone Trappers. On go, students were to try to eliminate the other team by sliding bean bags on the ground and hitting someone’s foot. If it hits their foot, they must go to the other teams side and stand inside the end zone (similar to bench ball). The only way to get free and return to their side is for someone on their team to throw a football OR frisbee to the person on the mat and that person catches the object. Once they catch it, they can return to their side and keep playing. It was totally fun!
In Writing, we finished our class beginning to our story. Throughout the week we had be discussing as a class how to write our beginning and taking ideas from each other to create and hook our reader to the story. The students began to write their own beginnings to their Flaws to Traits stories using the strategies that we have discussed and been using such as beginning with dialogue, questions/thoughts, sounds, or action.
In Math, we reviewed the different forms that numbers can be communicated to us which include standard (numeric) form, expanded/exploding form, and written form. Today, I challenged the students with hundred millions and ten million problems to get their brains thinking! We will be finishing that up next week along with starting algebraic equations.
We FINISHED Pax today! The students really enjoyed the novel and we will begin our next class novel study on Tuesday!
In Makerspace today, the students were tasked with creating items that reminded them about Thanksgiving and what they were thankful for! They were so creative with their ideas.
In Science, we continued to work on our Wetlands zone posters and their research about the wetland animals and their adaptations. They should be done next week!
A last reminder that there is no school tomorrow Friday October 7th, 2022 and no school Monday October 10th, 2022 for the Thanksgiving long weekend. I hope you get to discuss what you are grateful for and eat lots of turkey or ham.
Enjoy the long weekend with your family!
Miss. Hillier
