Good afternoon Families, It is Miss. Hillier's last day tomorrow! Tomorrow is PJ Day so come dressed in something comfy! In PE, the students are working on their jump rope skills. They are practicing different tricks while jumping rope there are many different ones and they increase in difficulty.  In Writing, we are continuing on with our grammar work! We learned about verbs today. There are different types: action verbs (describe what is being done) and linking verbs (linking the subject to the adjective).  In Math, the students continued to work on an assignment based around Coordinate Geometry. The students have to create a city within the Coordinate Plane. They have to include certain places in their city. They have to create the places using different 2D polygon shapes. Once they have completed the city, they have to write out the coordinates for each shape and label the shape. After they have done that, they need to create 4 questions related to direction within the Coordin

Hello Families,  Today in PE, the students continued practicing their skipping skills. Today, we challenged them to practice doing some tricks with their skipping. We watched a video of a world skipping champion . He was pretty impressive! Here are some of the tricks the students practiced: In Writing, we continued on with our grammar skills and learned more about commas and also about apostrophes! The students then practiced putting these skills to the test. In Math, students practiced plotting coordinates and shapes on the coordinate plane. Then students also practiced plotting shapes on the coordinate plane to show that coordinates are important in identifying a shape or location. Students will be working on a project over the next couple days related to all the topics based on coordinate planes.  We read more of our class novel Restart!  This afternoon, we rotated through our reading stations. We also went to makerspace where students had to use their imagination to create a scene

Good afternoon Families, Today the kids played  Crazy Basketball in PE.   Rules Same as the last two days, instead of using an actual basketball, they will be using a bunch of random equipment Since it would be too hard to dribble, we are going to change up the rules a little bit as well When a student gets the equipment they are allowed to take 0-3 steps They then must pass or shoot on the net Students can only hold onto the object for 5 seconds If you are on defence, you must stay an arm’s length away from the person with the equipment You cannot rip the equipment out of someone’s hands Discuss Offence & Defence strategies Offence: Try to find open space so your team can pass to you Defence: Try to cover someone so they can’t get the equipment   Gameplay Yesterday I would let them play for a couple minutes and then every time the music stopped they would return the equipment and I would throw out something new. After a while I just had one colour switch sides In Writing, we cont

Good afternoon Families, A reminder to make sure your child brings their shoes back to school.  In PE, the students did Crazy Hockey! The concept is very similar to Crazy Soccer but they were playing hockey instead! In Music, the students began to practice a rhythm game with body percussion added to the song. It is a challenge but the students seemed to enjoy themselves.  In Math, we continued to review Decimals. Today, we reviewed how to order decimals. We used the strategies we learned from before the break to practice.  We moved our desks today! This gives the students a chance to work and sit beside someone they chose and may have never worked with before. In Writing, we are learned about different grammar skills. Today, we learned about capitalization and what items need to be capitalized when we are writing.  This afternoon, the students got new reading groups, so they went through a station with their new group.  In Social, we started learning about the different regions of Can

Good afternoon Families, Happy New Year and welcome back to the school term! As I mentioned to your children and on one of my blog posts, I am back for two weeks to wrap things up with your children and report cards. My last day with your children will be January 20, 2023.  This morning the students were excited to be back in the classroom and to see each other and their friends. I sent home their indoor shoes over the Winter Break so please remember to make sure your child brings them back in the coming days.  In PE, the students started out the week with Crazy Soccer:  For the most part, this is the same as any other games day (split them into teams, switch who they play each game, etc) Normal soccer rules (no hands, only the goalie can go in the crease, don’t boot/kick the ball as hard as you can, start with a kick off) The big change is that each game you will choose a different piece of equipment for them to use instead of a soccer ball The choices are all on the cart, pick which
