 Gooa Afternoon!

Hope you had a great weekend and got out to spend some time in the fall colours!

Today, in Music we started to discuss the concept of tempo. We warmed up with a song called "Boom Chicka Boom". We then learned about tempo and the composer well known for tempo named Antonio Vivaldi. We will look at his famous concerto "Four Seasons" on Wednesday!

In Writing, we are beginning to discuss how to create our narratives. We discussed the different perspectives that stories could be written. We then discussed the important pieces that are needed in stories. The beginning, middle, and end. We will continue to discuss how to make a beginning engaging and attractive!

In Math, we are wrapping up area and perimeter. We will do one final wrap up activity and then move on to number sense! I am excited to see what students know about their numbers!

We read chapter 17 of Pax! We learned about the death of one of the foxes in the story. :(

This afternoon, student read to themselves quietly and exchanged the novels and books in the Learning Commons. A reminder to students that they need to be picking good fit books that they should be reading for a minimum of a week or longer.

In Social, today, we began to discuss Orange Shirt Day and National Truth & Reconciliation Day. I asked the students to tell me what they knew and learned over the past few years about this day. They came up with a lot. We then watched the video about Phyills Webstad and her story about being in a residental school and losing her new orange shirt. After that we discussed how the students would feel if I (the teacher/nun/priest) took something that was new to them that they cherished. They came up with a bunch of feelings. We then had a little bit of a Q & A where the students asked questions and I tried to provide them with the best answers that I knew. We discussed the recent discovery of many residental schools and the mass graves that were found along with them. Students asked questions about how the residental school students survived or died at the schools. I provided the best and most honest answers I could. If they are seeking more information please reach out to an elder or someone of Indigenous decent to ask more questions that I could not answer. We will be continuing to discuss these topics throughout the week.

I hope you have a lovely evening!

Miss. Hillier
