 Good afternoon Parents and Guardians,

Hope you had a great long weekend! I know I sure did!

Today, we had our second class of PE and we ran different relay races in teams and we were working on how to be sportsman like and show that it isn't all about winning or losing, but cheering on our teammates and everyone in the class building that community.

We are continuing on with our gratitude journals providing the students the opportunities to build and look internally about themselves so they build confidence in themselves.

We started a writing piece today in which the students get to choose a topic to write on such as what they did this summer or what are they most excited and nervous about for Grade 5. This is to show how well they can expand and describe their experiences.

In Math, we worked on the students' fast facts such as addition, multiplication or subtraction or comparing numbers by playing different games to help them practice their fact fluency because it will become really important for them to practice and know their math facts for future math activities. If at all possible please practice math facts with your children at home!

We started a class read aloud called Pax! We will continue to read this story aloud while the students draw pictures and ask questions in their visual journals as we read the novel. We will also be answering questions in regards to the novel.

We also completed a team building activity as a class where the students had to rank the most important items that they saved from a sinking boat. They first did it individually and then were placed in groups to discuss their reasonings. We then as a class discussed what our top 10 items would be to bring. It was a lengthy discussion on the items because they can be used in many different ways.

We discussed today the importance of the different recycling and composting programs in our school so each student knows what goes where so that we are working to be envrionmentally friendly.

Some housekeeping items for parents and guardians:

1. If your child and family are not going to be attending school for long periods of time or are sick at home please call or send an email to the front office as well as myself so that they know where the student is located. The email or phone call should always be placed to the office first and then myself.

2. We are going to be going on a walking Field Trip on Thursday to the Coventry Hills Storm Pond to start our Wetlands unit in Science. All the grade 5 classes are going. Mrs. Brinson will be sending out a letter informing you of the information.

3. Please have a look at home for books that your child can bring in and read. The library isn't ready for students to take books out yet (but we are hoping soon) and the classroom library is very limited. We will be doing silent reading and cafe work after lunch every day.

Take care and chat with you all tomorrow!
