 Hello Families!

I hope you had a lovely day! School was busy today!

The students played the same game they did yesterday in PE. 

In Music, we played Poison rhythm to warm up. We then watched a video about body percussion. The students will be creating their own body percussion in the coming classes. 


We continued to work on our Thirst projects. 

In Math, we did our four fluency questions and then we played a game. The students had to start at a card. On the card was an equation and they had to solve. The answer they got led them to another equation. If you did the sequence correctly, they would have ended up back at the card they started at, it was a loop game. This allowed students to practice solving algebraic problems. 


In Writing, the students worked on adding elaborative detail to their beginnings. We will be moving on to adding to our story by adding the problem and the things leading up to the solving of the problem in the story. 

In CAFE today, we learned about how we can read to someone else. We also discussed why we read to someone else. 


In Health, we practiced how we say STOP in a firm voice to those that are bothering or making fun of us. We also learned how to explain why we want them to stop. 

In Science, we watched a video on ecosystems, then we read about different ecosystems and made connections about an ecosystem that we know of near us.

  Good afternoon Lovely Grade 5 Parents and Guardians, I hope you had a lovely day! We sure did at school! Tomorrow is Spirit Day at school so please wear Purple (if you can) for Grade 5! We are also going on a walking Field Trip tomorrow to the Coventry/Country Hills Storm Pond. Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather as it may rain in the afternoon. We are going from about 1:45-3:15.  This morning the students had their first music class. We learned about different vocabulary for music terms and about different instruments. We then played Rhythm Master! The students had a blast! We continued to work on our writing piece about either their summer vacations or what they are excited and nervous about in Grade 5. We are almost complete so it will be nice to hear what students did over the summer or what they are looking forward to this year.  Good afternoon! A reminder tomorrow is Healthy Hunger day! Kernels will be dropped off tomorrow. Thursday is Festive Hat day!  In PE, the students are working with scooters and it looks like so much fun! In Writing, students are working on wrapping up their pieces of writing with their ending. We have discussed the different strategies to use when ending a piece of writing. So, the students are going to wrap up their stories by using two of these strategies, revealing the character's trait that they learn about themselves, and revealing the adaptation that their character has gained from its journey!  In Math, the students reviewed the decimal place value strategy that was learned over the last couple of classes. We then discussed comparing decimals and reviewing what the <, >, = mean when comparing numbers. Students then practiced this task with 15 questions.  In Word Work, students worked with their groups to find different words that followed the patterns of their words.
