 Good Afternoon!

Tomorrow is Drop Everything and Read Day. There will be announcements on in the school that will tell us to drop what we are doing and read for some time. It will be a lot of fun! So bring a book you would like to read.

In PE, we played a game called Trick or Treaters. It was a ton of fun! This is how the game was played:

Rules:

  • 2 Teams à One team starts as trick or treaters (runners) and the other team starts as throwers
  • The trick or treaters start in the safe zone at the far end of the gym, while the throwers start behind the pylons/benches on either side of the gym
  • When the music starts, the trick or treaters will have 4-5 minutes (use personal judgement if it should be shorter or longer) to try and run to the other safe zone, grab a piece of candy (bean bag), and then try to run back.
  • While they are doing that, the throwers are trying to hit them with a dodgeball
  • If the trick or treaters do all that without getting hit, they get to add the candy to their bin
  • If they get hit (2 scenarios):
    • On the way to the candy: they must go back to the starting zone
    • On the way back, after they grabbed a candy: they must go back to the 2ndsafe zone where they can continue to try and bring the candy back
  • Count how many candies they got after the time limit and then switch roles
  • ***Throwers can enter the middle to grab a dodgeball BUT they MUST throw behind the pylons/benches.

In Writing, the students used their beginnings and their knowledge of elaborating and adding detail to plan their beginning more in depth. They used the following graphic organizee.

In Math, we did our routine questions and continued to work on the workpages. We will be moving on to the next algebra topic next week.

We read Chapter 8-9 of Thirst today! I also gave the students time to work on their Thirst project. We also went over the Picture Glossary that another school did of some of the words in the book that were new to us.

This afternoon, the students began to read with someone else to build their fluency. Along with our Literacy Week we got to do a Sit In Read where all the classes got together to read their books at the same time! It was fun to see the students read with their classmates or siblings.

In Makerspace, the students were tasked with creating a Haunted House.

The last part of the day, we started to work on an art project for Halloween! We got to use pastels. We are making a night time bat scene.

I hope you have a lovely evening!
