Good Afternoon!
Wow October already! Boy has time flied! I hope you got out and enjoyed the beautiful weekend!
Our Field Trip for Wetlands is next Tuesday and we need at least one more parent volunteer. If you could please think about joining us for our field trip that would be great. You need to make sure that you have clearance to participate as a volunteer otherwise you can't. Also, it would be really great if you could please sign the photo consent form that can be filled out online otherwise your child cannot be photographed doing fun activities in school and placed on the blog or school website.
Today in Music, the students reviewed rhythm by playing Musical Four Corners and Would You Rather! The students loved it!
In Writing today, we discussed description and how we can take boring words and make them more interesting which can make the story, piece of writing or essay more exciting to read.
In Math, we spent our whole math block discussing place value and the importance of how place value affects numbers. We discussed that to get to the next place value it is 10 times more than the previous. We are multiplying each time by 10. We then used place value blocks to make sense of the fact that it takes a certain number of tens blocks to make up 100 as a number, it takes a certain number of hundreds blocks to make up 1000 and so forth. The students practiced this by using their knowledge of patterns to do practice questions. We then discussed the factor of money which was engaging because some of the students had never heard or seen of pennies, or the paper bills.

In CAFE, the students were to choose their own reading goal that fit within the four categories. Once they chose a category they had to choose a strategy that they were willing to work towards. I will be sitting down with each student over the next few days to see what they have chosen as their goal and discuss how they can achieve this goal. These goals will be followed up with guided reading as well as indepedent reading.
In Social, the students got to created a puzzle of Canada. It was to see how much they knew about the country they are living in and the provinces and territories that exist within the country. Each group had small pieces of Canada right, it was interesting to see what they knew about their country.
I hope you have a lovely evening!
