 Good evening,

Tomorrow is picture retake day! Dress to impress for those retaking photos.

A note from Admin:

Hello families,

Parent / Teacher Conferences will be in person at Northern Lights School this Thursday night (November 24) between 4:30 - 8:00 pm and Friday (November 25) during the day between 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. There is no school for students on Friday.

Families have their own booked 15-minute slot so there will not be other families in the classrooms at the same time. To help them stay on track, we ask that you arrive at the time you have booked.

When arriving, teachers would love to greet you with a smile and a wave, rather than a handshake.

Teachers will also likely wear a mask during your meeting time and may have their meeting table set up with additional room for physical distancing.

Hand sanitizer is available upon entering the school and on the wall in every classroom to be used at your convenience.

We hope you will pop by the Learning Commons for our Book Fair to browse what is available and say hello to Mrs. Barrowcliff, Mrs. Brinson, Mrs. Docherty and Mr. Newton.

If your child or other little ones at home are sick, we ask that you come to the conference without them to help reduce the spread of any illnesses.

We look forward to seeing everyone in a few days!

This week we have started some new tasks! It has been exciting.

In PE, the students are learning some of the techniques with curling! They are having a blast!

In our Writing, we have started working on the main event of our stories. We worked on our class story to help show students the importance of the main event. The main event is the largest part of a story and helps to provide the characters with identifying characteristics about themselves. Students will begin to plan their main events in the next couple of classes.

In Math, we have started introducing the idea of math stations. The math stations are related to concepts that we have worked through already and want to get better and remember. The students will be doing this in groups independently after they complete the task from the lesson of the day. Students will then be pulled into small groups to work with myself to help build and challenge their understanding.

In Thirst, we have read up to Chapter 38. We also created questions to ask another class about the book and their culture.

In the afternoon, the students were also introduced to the idea of literacy centers. They have already been introduced to two centers that we have been working through since the beginning of the year. We will be introducing new centers intermittently. The stations will allow the students to rotate and work through different reading tasks while I work with other students to build their fluency, comprehension, and accuracy skills in small group.

In Makerspace today, the students were very creative as we had Makerspace in the Prairie.

This week we also introduce our Word Work slot. During this time, students will work in groups to practice different words and strategies on how to spell these words. While students work with their groups, I will be pulling groups to explain the patterns in the words and how to remember the pattern in words.

In Social, the students are continuing to work on their province task research and posters.

Have a great evening!

Miss. Hillier
