 Hello Families! 

Tomorrow is Christmas Festive or PJ day! Your child can come dressed in PJs or Christmas Festive sweaters or dress wear. 

In PE, students were practicing their passing in soccer. 

In Music, students were practicing their Canadian music projects and will begin to present in two classes.

In Math, we looked at decimals on a number line. We learned that there are decimal numbers between whole numbers! We learned that between whole numbers are decimals with tenths. Between tenths there are hundredths and between hundredths are thousandths. Give it a try at home with the Zoomable number line to practice. We also watched some videos to help give a visual to the idea of decimals on the number line! Have a look at the website: https://www.mathswithmum.com/decimals-on-a-number-line/ 

In Writing, the students began to write their main events on the computers and add more detail and more description. The stories are coming along nicely. 

This afternoon, the students listened to the story about the Wish Tree, where they then created and wrote wish ornaments that will go on our school trees! 

We then worked on our Province Posters and will begin to present in a couple days!

  Good afternoon Lovely Grade 5 Parents and Guardians, I hope you had a lovely day! We sure did at school! Tomorrow is Spirit Day at school so please wear Purple (if you can) for Grade 5! We are also going on a walking Field Trip tomorrow to the Coventry/Country Hills Storm Pond. Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather as it may rain in the afternoon. We are going from about 1:45-3:15.  This morning the students had their first music class. We learned about different vocabulary for music terms and about different instruments. We then played Rhythm Master! The students had a blast! We continued to work on our writing piece about either their summer vacations or what they are excited and nervous about in Grade 5. We are almost complete so it will be nice to hear what students did over the summer or what they are looking forward to this year.  Good afternoon! A reminder tomorrow is Healthy Hunger day! Kernels will be dropped off tomorrow. Thursday is Festive Hat day!  In PE, the students are working with scooters and it looks like so much fun! In Writing, students are working on wrapping up their pieces of writing with their ending. We have discussed the different strategies to use when ending a piece of writing. So, the students are going to wrap up their stories by using two of these strategies, revealing the character's trait that they learn about themselves, and revealing the adaptation that their character has gained from its journey!  In Math, the students reviewed the decimal place value strategy that was learned over the last couple of classes. We then discussed comparing decimals and reviewing what the <, >, = mean when comparing numbers. Students then practiced this task with 15 questions.  In Word Work, students worked with their groups to find different words that followed the patterns of their words.
