 Hello Families,

Here is a note from all Grade 5 teachers about a form that went home today. If you did not receive a form please make sure your child brings their purple folder home:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Thursday, December 22nd, the Grade 5 Team will be mixing solids and liquids as part of their Classroom Chemistry unit in Science. We will be dissolving hot chocolate powder in warm water prior to drinking it.

The hot chocolate powder was bought from Superstore. Here is the ingredients list:

President’s Choice Hot Chocolate Powder: Sugar, Cocoa, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavour, Skim Milk Powder.

If you DO NOT wish for your child to drink the hot chocolate please fill out the slip below and return it as soon as possible.

***Any forms not returned on or before December 22nd will indicate that permission is given. Students without returned forms will be offered hot chocolate for tasting***

Thank you,

Miss Gadbois, Miss Hillier, Ms. Palichuk

In PE, the students played a dodgeball game called Snowball Battle. They had fun!

In Writing, students are wrapping up their stories and writing their endings.

In Math, the students learned how to add decimals. Students learned that is important to line up the numbers in the correct place value spots and so that the decimals are also lined up. We will be doing some fun activities with adding decimals in the coming days.

We continued to read the novel Restart. The students like the concept of this kid who lost his memory and is learning about who he was and the idea to if he wants to change that image.

This afternoon, we changed things up! The students learned to log in with Minecraft education and played around with the worlds. As of right now please do not allow them to play with it at home, I am gathering information from other teachers about the protocol for this.

The students are getting more and more creative in Makerspace. It is exciting to see their creative minds work during this Creative Play time.

We did our reading stations this afternoon, and continue to build their reading stamina and comprehension skills.

Have a great evening!

Miss. Hillier
